Hardy Road

Canal Architectural were approached to manufacture and install a feature balcony for a private residence in South East London. The structure featured a toughened and laminated glass balustrade with a stainless steel handrail. The balcony also featured aluminium powder coated flashings for protection against the outdoor elements and rusting.

The balcony platform created a contemporary, enclosed outdoor space that blended with the modern elements of the property. The Canal Architectural installation team worked closely with the site team to ensure expert fitting in line with current UK building regulations.

Vintners Place

Canal Architectural were approached to manufacture and install weathering steel planters for a roof terrace at Vintners Place in Central London. Canal Architectural worked closely with contractors Parkeray to install the planters along the 7,000 sq ft terrace. The inner frame was finished in galvanised steel – acting as a protective layer to prevent rusting. The steel cladding featured a chemically rusted surface for a naturally weathered appearance.

The talented project management team at Canal Architectural worked closely with the onsite contractors to ensure delivery on time and smooth fitting.

Buns and Buns

Canal Architectural supplied a bespoke polished copper gantry to a fine food restaurant located in the heart of Covent Garden. The Buns & Buns project involved completely removing an existing restaurant and replacing it with a steel structure which housed a new theatre kitchen, bar and seating area.

The team at Canal worked alongside Michaelis Boyd Associates to design a bespoke copper gantry for the bar area. The initial concept was sent over by the architect and the finer details such as connections, fixing points and section sizes were scoped out by Canal’s Technical Sales Team. The overall aesthetic was inspired by urban design trends with the mild steel construction plated in copper and polished.

The project management team at Canal worked closely with WFC contractors to ensure successful fitting of the project within a tight time frame.

University of Surrey

The University of Surrey recently refurbished their student service centre to modernise the existing, traditional structure. The architect wanted to incorporate a contemporary, visual look to the external space by adding perforated mesh panels to the length of the building. Canal manufactured the bespoke panels in aluminium to provide protection against rust and they were powder coated in RAL colour 9003 (signal white) to provide a more attractive and durable finish.

The talented project team at Canal worked closely with the contractor to ensure a smooth delivery and fitting of the panels, working in line with latest health and safety regulations.

Infosys

The client approached Canal Architectural to design metal balustrades for a commercial office space in Nottingham for an IT technology company. The client originally requested standard mesh panels for the internal space at the front of the building. The Canal team offered a stronger, contemporary solution to fulfill the initial specifications and meet with structural calculations. The site installation team installed an open grid flooring for the infill panels in compliance with British Standards.

The balustrades were completed with a powder coated finish and blended perfectly with the light installations in the atrium. The team at Canal Architectural worked  with the on-site contractors to ensure perfect assembly and smooth delivery.

Love Lane

A premium office building located in Central London underwent an office refurbishment and required new external balustrading.

The outdoor balustrading took a lot of skill and craftsmanship to achieve the contemporary square pattern. In the Nottingham manufacturing site, Canal completely laser cut and welded the square pattern into shape. In addition, the bespoke metalwork is powder coating with a black finish to fit the client’s brief.

To match the small intricate gold details within the interior, Canal also fabricated a decorative screen for the reception area within the main entrance.  The fabrication team water jet cut the gold brass screen to achieve a similar pattern to the external balustrading. The decorative screen enhanced the surrounding decor within the reception as well as adding a luxury finish.

The design possibilities for decorative screens are endless whilst suitable for both interior and exterior environments.

There are a wide range of decorative screen options available including:

  • Room Dividers
  • Privacy Screens
  • Decorative Balustrades
  • Garden Gates
  • And more..

The benefits of laser cutting is you can achieve small intricate details as well as creating eye catching one off designs. Canal will work with you and your architect through your initial design ideas and we will deliver your concept into a reality but also to the highest quality.

Latima

This residential home located in West London, underwent a garden renovation project and required a set of decorative privacy screens.

The homeowners had an idea of the pattern they wanted to create and designed it themselves. As they were seeking something bespoke Canal were the perfect candidate for the job.

In the workshop, Canal laser cut each 3mm stainless steel sheet to achieve the organic pattern the client designed.

To hold and support the decorative panels in place a mild steel box section fabricated and welded together at our Nottingham site. The Canal team also designed tab fixings onto the box section to create for a seamless installation.

A powder coating black finish was then added to the box section and laser cut panels before delivering and fitting on site.

Canal Architectural offer an extensive range design options for laser cut screens. The benefit of laser cutting is that it allows you to create almost any pattern you desire with small intricate details.

Decorative Screens are suitable for a wide range interior options including:

Coca-Cola Happiness Tree

A Showcase in Young Talent

Coca-Cola Enterprises launched a competition open to Brunel University London. Students entered the competition to design a new bespoke steel structure to stand proudly outside the Coca-Cola Uxbridge head offices.

The brief was to design a sculpture that represented the Coca-Cola brand and celebrating their environmental and social values. The winning design was just under four metres high, representing the dynamic ribbon from the famous brand’s logo.

Working closely with both Coca-cola and the university students, Canal completed the fabrication and installation of the bespoke steel structure.

In Nottingham, Canal started the fabrication of the large structure in their workshop. Canal laser cut 25,000 holes into the stainless steel to create a sense of lightness. In addition, Canal sent the large structure to site ready for installation.

The aim of the structure is for vegetation to grow over and through the structure to signify the tree. Once the sculpture was close to completion, students planted ivy at the base so over time it will grow up the steel work.

In February, the bespoke steel sculpture is unveiled by Coca-Cola and the students who designed it. As a result it stands proudly at the front of the headquarters, celebrating the brand and the wealth of talent in the UK.
