Canal Architectural designed, manufactured and installed a feature staircase for Somerby Hall in Lincolnshire.

The team designed three helical, mild steel staircase structures with laminated and curved glass. The striking structure was designed to wrap around the lift of the council building and required expert skill and precision to secure the structure. The toughened and laminated glass balustrade was resin fixed into the channel stringers and featured a brushed stainless steel finish. All steelwork was site sprayed to smooth over any fabrication marks and welded joints.

Canal Architectural were approached to design, manufacture and install luxury feature staircases, balustrades and screens for a commercial space in Bond Street. A leading commercial design company collaborated with the Technical Sales Team to engineer bespoke architectural metalwork for this world class project.

The 14,500 sq ft of commercial space in the heart of London was developed to connect its employees and working spaces together over 10 floors. The Zig Zag profile staircase structure and flat bar balustrade featured hidden structural steelwork supports with a site applied bronze effect paint finish. The fully cantilevered stair structure spanned over 6 floors and featured flat bar balustrades and underside soffit panels, all site sprayed in a contemporary bronze effect finish. Another staircase structure spanned over 2 floors and featured hidden structural steelwork supports, wall panels and mild steel flat bar construction.

Canal Architectural worked closely with the team to engineer various bespoke items for the development including bespoke planters, balustrades and screens. The entire development was transformed into a contemporary co-working space for the specialist real estate firm.

Canal Architectural manufactured and installed a feature staircase for London’s landmark development ‘The Scalpel’ The commercial skyscraper is located in the City of London financial area – Lime Street, owing its name to the buildings distinctive design.

The fabricated steel structure was installed from level 6 upwards and featured 25 risers with two mid landings. The mild steel frame was site sprayed and structural laminated glass was added to the balustrade to allow light flow within the development. The overall staircase structure complimented the contemporary, commercial surroundings with its sleek monochromatic design.

Canal Architectural were approached to design, manufacture and install a luxury feature staircase for Gresham Street. A leading workspace design company collaborated with the Technical Sales Team to engineer a four flight staircase for the atrium of the building.

The 50,000 sq ft of commercial space in the heart of London was developed to connect its employees and working spaces together. The mild steel structure featured oak timber box treads, painted stringers, bronze metallic balustrade and a wrapped brown leather handrail. The entire development was transformed into a contemporary co-working area for a modern and innovative space for the specialist investment firm.

Canal Architectural were approached to design, manufacture and install a feature staircase for 100 Liverpool Street, London. The multi-use commercial project was designed by leading flexible workspace provider, Storey/British Land.

The workspace featured state-of-the-art meeting rooms, lounges, private booths, auditorium and collaborative spaces for employees. The modular design and collaborative commercial spaces were connected by a contemporary staircase structure to blend with the evolving workspace aesthetic.

Canal manufactured three straight flights in mild steel with half and quarter landings. The balustrade was clad in MDF backing panels and featured 2mm thick hot rolled mild steel sheets that were bonded and tack welded together.  The balustrade and handrail were site sprayed in a high-grade paint finish to cover any fabrication marks or welds. The entire interior space was transformed into a contemporary co-working area for a modern and innovative working environment.

The Canal site team worked closely with the contractor Parkeray throughout the entire installation process to ensure smooth delivery in line with current building regulations. 

Canal Architectural were approached to manufacture and install a contemporary, feature staircase for a private residence in Highbury. The mild steel helical staircase featured 14 american white oak treads, curved balustrade and oak timber handrail. A site spray was applied to the exposed steel for a polished design and to blend with the contemporary surroundings of the property.

Canal were approached to manufacture and install an exclusive feature staircase for a private residence in Fulham. The staircase structure was installed from the basement to the ground floor and then leading upto the first floor and master bedroom. The staircase was manufactured in mild steel, featured oak box treads with a laminated glass balustrade and stainless steel handrail. The team added a high build deep black finish to each of the treads to blend with the contemporary and elegant staircase design.

Canal Architectural were approached to manufacture and install a feature staircase for an office development in London. Eagle House was recently refurbished as part of a new wave of developments in the area but retained many of its former Art Deco features.

The mild steel structure was installed from the ground floor to the second floor with six flights and landings. The staircase featured folded plate treads, toughened and laminated glass infill panels on the balustrade and a brushed stainless steel handrail. The staircase blended well with the contemporary designs and industrial architecture that Shoreditch is well known for. The Canal site team worked closely with the contractor throughout the entire installation process to ensure smooth delivery and fitting on site.

Canal Architectural recently manufactured and installed a grand sweeping staircase structure to the iconic, Regents Crescent in London. The Grade I listed building houses 67 luxury residences, 9 Garden Villas, including private gardens and 5-star amenities.

The centre of the Crescent features a magnificent double-height entrance lobby with three helical staircases. The grand, sweeping helical staircase design created a real connection between the floors and every spindle unique in design to create fluidity and movement in the installation. All three staircases were site sprayed and featured an anolok bronze finish for a contemporary look. The overall design aesthetic reflected the elegance and grandeur of the Regency period.

This project was a remarkable accomplishment for the team at Canal Architectural, the increased creativity and precision in metalwork fabrication means the most complex architectural designs such as Regents Crescent can be brought to life.

Canal Architectural were approached manufacture and install this elegant helical staircase for a prestigious development in Mayfair. This private penthouse apartment is located in London’s most impressive district with views over the iconic Hyde Park in Mayfair.

The mild steel structure featured oak laminated treads with a timber oak handrail and a curved, glass balustrade. LED lights were installed to the underside of the tread to illuminate the staircase and create an elegant ambience.  The Canal site team worked closely with the contractor throughout the entire installation process to ensure smooth delivery and fitting on site.

Contemporary feature staircase structure for the ROMO Fabrics commercial headquarters in Nottinghamshire. The project was designed to consolidate the four sites, bringing together the separate elements of the office, process and storage space all together.

The expansive mild steel staircase structure featured a thick outer plate clad in MDF timber.

Canal Architectural were approached to supply and fit 72 external balcony balustrades to a 16-floor high-rise building in St Helier, Jersey. The balustrade sets were manufactured from marine grade stainless steel, featuring polyester powder coated posts and a mirror polished handrail. The finish was designed to be low maintenance to suit the environmentally demanding seafront location. Frosted glass was also applied to the balustrade for the safety and privacy of the apartment residents.

The existing, tired high-rise building was totally refurbished and transformed into a modern and vibrant complex.

Canal Architectural were approached by Rainsford Contractors in the major refurbishment of this 3rd floor city commercial building. Two steel staircase structures were added to either side of the seating installation. The staircase featured a balustrade with laser cut steel infill panels, including a toughened and laminated structural glass balustrade featuring a powder coated finish. The entire interior space was transformed into a contemporary co-working area for a modern and innovative working environment.

Canal Architectural were approached to design and manufacture a mild steel staircase for a high end property in London. The client worked closely with the Canal Technical Sales team to design a contemporary and luxurious antique bronze staircase that provided access to the upper floors of the property.

The staircase was bronze plated and featured a leather wrapped handrail for a luxurious design. The final result was a minimalist staircase structure that blended perfectly with the modern and rustic elements of the property. The team worked closely with the client for a smooth delivery and to ensure the specification met all current UK staircase building regulations.

Canal Architectural worked closely with James Darwent Architecture to design and manufacture a bespoke curved cantilevered  staircase for a property in the Peak District. The mild steel staircase structure incorporated 16 timber treads with 20mm spindles and handrail, incorporating an all wax finish. A handrail was added to the staircase in American White Oak as part of a safety and architectural feature. The final result was a minimalist staircase structure that blended perfectly with the contemporary and rustic elements of the property.

The team at Canal worked closely with contractor Modus to manufacture a mild steel staircase structure for the embassy in London. Canal worked with the main contractor to supply and fit the magnificent oak structure to the main atrium of the building.

The mild steel structure incorporated dark stained oak treads with glass balustrade to blend with the surrounding floor in the embassy. The balustrade incorporated toughened and laminated glass with a dark stained oak handrail.

The team at Canal were approached by the client and design team at Collins Construction to manufacture an impressive bespoke staircase for the WD40 European headquarters.

The client requested a feature staircase that connected three floors and reception desk inside the main central building; designed by the award winning workplace design consultancy Burtt-Jones & Brewer. The technical sales team at Canal worked closely with the client to address the finer details including building regulations, existing constraints, structurals, logistics and overall aesthetics. The client requested the staircase to be manufactured in mild steel with a raw oiled finish to blend with their brand identity.

Canal Architectural were approached to manufacture a cantilever staircase as well as a bespoke internal balcony for a luxury residential property in Staffordshire.

The property owner worked closely with the Canal team to design a floating staircase for the two story bedroom. The structure was manufactured in mild steel with 13 timber treads added in White American Oak. Toughened laminated glass was added to the stair balustrade with a modern, brushed stainless steel handrail fitted. Lights along with a mood setting device were installed underneath the treads to achieve an artistic and creative finish. The final result was a simple ‘floating’ staircase structure that blended perfectly with the contemporary features of the property.

The homeowner also specified an upper internal balcony for another bedroom within the property. Steel box sections were added and manufactured in mild steel with glass infill panels incorporated into the design. The talented in-house project management team at Canal worked closely with the on-site contractors to ensure a smooth delivery and installation in line with current UK building regulations.

Canal were approached to manufacture a bespoke, straight staircase for a residential property in Kent. The architect wanted to allow as much light in as possible to permeate throughout the property which meant incorporating extensive amounts of glass into the design. The specification required a contemporary steel staircase structure with glass balustrades and treads. The structure and handrails were manufactured in stainless steel and a satin polish finish was applied to provide a brushed appearance. Pig nose fixings were applied to the glass and stringer, which married up the initial welded fixings and held the glass panels in place.

The glass added a fascinating, reflective and visual look to to the structural centrepiece of the property. The final result was an elegant, staircase structure that complemented the interior of the contemporary property.
