In the heart of London, Canal recently completed a glass commercial staircase for an office building.
The specification was to replace the existing staircase and balustrade with a brand new, contemporary feature staircase. The aim was to transform the aesthetics of the building entrance and reflect the company’s high-end image.
The stainless steel main central structure and tread trays started fabrication at Canal’s manufacturing facility in Nottingham. Alongside the main structure, a stainless steel handrail also began fabrication at Canal’s workshop. Both handrails and the main structure then made their way to site ready for installation.
Throughout the first floor a 21.5mm glass balustrade increases light flow whilst giving a gin clear appearance. The lamination of the glass creates a thickness that meeting building regulations and loadings for commercial properties.
On site, Canal install the glass balustrade onto the main structure of the staircase as well as the handrail on to the balustrade. To follow dark oak covers the handrail adding a sense of luxury.
To complete this stunning glass commercial staircase, the fabricated box treads were covered in a light coloured stone, which matched the ground floor and feature wall, while the complete metal staircase structure was seamlessly polished showing no visible joints.
