Canal designed and installed an impressive steel and glass feature staircase for a commercial setting. This bespoke design comprised four joint-free, smooth helical staircases, connected by an intermediate landing fabricated from reinforced concrete.
Canal’s design team reviewed the initial intent drawings before developing the technical design using Autodesk Inventor. The individual staircases were fabricated and prebuilt in our Nottingham workshop, where they were inspected and approved by the client.
Following approval, the staircases were dismantled before being delivered and installed by our in-house installation team, working closely with on-site contractors to ensure a smooth operation.
The staircases featured 12mm stainless steel helical stringers finished in a satin polish with 41.5mm low-iron glass treads. The glass balustrade, at 21.5mm tick, was finished with a 42mm slotted stainless handrail, improving safety without compromising on style.
The final result was an amazing space dominated by a contemporary feature staircase comprising of functionality with sleek design.
The Canal Team designed each staircase to comply with BS5395: Part 2, 1984 (spiral and helical staircases) and Building Regulations: Approved Document K.
